(KRON) -- Warm to hot temperatures continue Saturday, with near-critical fire weather conditions across the higher elevations. Much cooler weather arrives Sunday, with rain chances Tuesday through Thursday.
Short Term: Skies will be sunny Saturday. Away from the coast, highs will reach the mid 80s to lower 90s, a couple of degrees cooler than Friday. In the higher elevations, hot, dry air will bring near-critical fire weather conditions, with humidity dropping into the teens in most areas away from the coast. Winds will turn onshore this afternoon, beginning a cooling trend. Sunday, a deeper weather system approaches from the west, bringing back the marine layer and dropping highs another 10 to 15 degrees. Winds will turn westerly, with gusts of 15 to 25 miles per hour in most places.
Long Term: On Monday, onshore winds will increase and the marine layer will deepen, bringing temperatures down to near seasonal averages. From Tuesday through Thursday, light rain showers are possible, with a 40 to 60 percent chance along the coast and a 20 to 40 percent chance across the North Bay, East Bay, and South Bay. A thunderstorm is also possible. Cool weather continues through next Friday.
Beach Hazards: Hazardous beach conditions are developing at Pacific Coast beaches this weekend and are likely to continue into next week. Long period southerly and southwesterly swell will bring an increased risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents, with breaking waves of 7 to 12 feet. With sunny weather Saturday, many people may head to the beach, so use caution. Stay off jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside structures, as waves can sweep across the shoreline without warning and pull people into the sea. Never turn your back on the ocean.
